For us, it is ultimately important to have our customers be satisfied with what we have for sale. Therefore, we spend considerable time identifying the best suppliers which source the freshest products, and where possible, buying directly from the growers to ensure you get the products with quality you paid for.
We currently have suppliers based in France, UK, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, USA, and India. These suppliers will provide us the harvest date, batch identification, dates of independent germination testing and the results achieved. If the batch of seeds reaches does not come with a minimum life of one growing season, it will be replaced with a newer batch.
To comply with the European regulations, the seeds are fully inspected by DEFRA. Although seed importation restrictions within Europe are minimal, we are not held responsible if certain varieties are refused entry to countries outside of Europe. We will not export any illegal or restricted seeds, and of any varieties that require Phytosanitary Certificate due to its prohibitive costs.
Seeds are counted manually, but in the event of bulk orders, they are packed using a seed counting machine.
This machine ensures you get exactly the amount of seeds written on the packet, and even more, as we set it with 3 to 4% extra to give you the best value possible. A detailed technical description of this machine can be found here.
Our supplier for bulbs is one of the most reliable and one of the biggest importers of plants in Italy, a company that purchases bulbs directly from the Netherlands and local growers. We make sure the bulbs are in top condition, with at least one or two eyes sprouting (where applicable) and without any visible signs of infections and pests.
We will discard and replace any bulbs with any kinds of rot that might spread to other bulbs and those that prevent the bulbs from growing at all. These bulbs are selected carefully, sometimes handpicked, to ensure you receive the bulbs of top quality.
Although we don’t have much live plants for sale, we still entertain special orders from our customers. If these items are not in our catalog, we will manually add them into the invoice.
We choose only healthy plants, with at least one good branching or a few sets of new leaves. We will not deliver sickly plants, therefore we might ask buyers for options, whether to let us keep the plants until they are stabilized or wait for a better batch of plants in future.
Prior to packing, these plants will be removed from soil for inspection, to make sure the root system is healthy and free from any signs of disease. To maintain the quality of our items, we have to refuse selling plants that we know will not survive during shipment.
Plants that are dormant, without leaves, and already been cut down to make them ready for planting are known as bare roots. Although they look like dead, we guarantee that they will have a few living leaf nodes and buds, waiting to emerge.
These dormant bare roots normally come with their own original packaging, be it a box, or simply a wrapping that covers the whole root system. They do not come with garden soil as medium, instead, to retain the moisture around the roots, suppliers provide other mediums such as perlite, straws, or peat moss. We consider these plants ‘sleeping’, and the only way to know whether the plants are still living, we will make a few small cuts around the trunk to see whether it’s still green inside. So, if you find a little scratch on your dormant bare root, please don’t worry, as it is simply one of our procedures to ensure you receive a good and healthy plant.
